Growing company to begin major expansion during milestone anniversary year
Auburn, IL - Springfield Plastics, Inc. will be celebrating its 45th anniversary in 2023. Part of the celebration will include a facility expansion project in Auburn, Illinois.
Founded in Auburn in 1978 by Roy Baker, Wayne Baker, and Glen Brandt, Springfield Plastics manufactures tile drainage solutions for the agricultural, residential/building, commercial, and highway markets. Today, Springfield Plastics has offices in Auburn and Humboldt, Iowa. The company is owned by local shareholders, and the Bakers take care of day-to-day operations.
“This company began with a few simple thoughts,” said Steve Baker, President of Springfield Plastics. “A commitment to manufacturing the best product on the market, delivering a high level of service to our customers, and a steadfast dedication to our employees and the communities in which we operate. Forty-five years later I can say with confidence that these are still our guiding principles.”
Over the past several years, Springfield Plastics has expanded to deliver its 100%-virgin-resin made product to a nine-state area and added its second location in Humboldt to service customers farther to the north and west.
Production of Springfield Plastics tile and fittings is handled at the Auburn location. The Auburn expansion project will allow the company to grow in the areas of production, raw materials management, quality control and assurance, and warehousing. Part of the expansion includes adding up to 65 full-time positions in sales, shipping, accounting, engineering, and manufacturing.
“The growth that we, and our customers, have seen in agriculture tile drainage is really quite remarkable,” continued Baker. “Our leadership presented our board with a well-thought plan for expansion, which they approved quickly. We look forward to getting to work on the expansion and the opportunity to offer good-paying positions to those in our local community.”
Forty-five years in business and a major expansion aren’t the only things Springfield Plastics will be celebrating next year. The company’s annual Drain for the Cure fundraiser for cancer research and prevention will be turning 10 in October 2023. The fundraiser has raised more than $675,000 over the years to support the fight against cancer in Illinois and Iowa.
