2025 Drain for the Cure donations made to Illinois, Iowa, and Indiana facilities
Springfield Plastics made its 2025 donations to Simmons Cancer Institute at SIU School of Medicine (Springfield, Illinois), HSHS St. John’s Cancer Center (Springfield, Illinois), John Stoddard Cancer Center at UnityPoint Health (Des Moines, Iowa), and Indiana University Melvin and Bren Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center (Indianapolis, Indiana) in check presentations at each facility.
“We’re humbled by the generosity of the Springfield Plastics communities in Illinois, Iowa, and Indiana and grateful for the chance to support these Midwest cancer centers in caring for patients who are dealing with cancer,” said Jennifer Furkin, President of Springfield Plastics. “Remembering those we’ve lost and championing those still battling cancer is deeply personal to us as a company.”
Since its inception in 2014, Drain for the Cure has raised more than $1,200,000 for cancer research and patient services. Drain for the Cure is funded through individual donations from employees, customers, vendors, business partners, and friends of Springfield Plastics. The 2025 Drain for the Cure Partners were United Community Bank, Shaw Polymers, Hill Industries, and Ward Tiling. Drain for the Cure also hosted its first Sunday Funday event for the fundraiser at Route 66 Motorheads in Springfield, Illinois.
Dale Himstedt of D&H Drainage and Shane Gray of S&J Gray Trucking accepted donations at participating elevators through Grain for the Cure. To kick off Grain for the Cure 2025, Gray hosted lunch at Scoular in Waverly, Illinois.
Several Central Illinois-area schools also helped support Drain for the Cure through Game for the Cure events and penny drives, including Auburn, Maroa-Forsyth, Noth Mac, Porta, and Tri-City High Schools.
All proceeds from Drain for the Cure will go toward patient care and cancer research and prevention at Simmons Cancer Institute, HSHS St. John’s Cancer Center, John Stoddard Cancer Center, and Indiana University Melvin and Bren Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center.
